We know many of you are joining Reddit specifically to connect with other Maestro students. That's awesome. But Reddit can be a little confusing if you've never used it before — so we made this quick guide to help you get started and avoid unnecessary frustration.

🚦 First thing: Your posts will be filtered at first (and that's okay)

Because you're a new user, Reddit's automatic systems will hold your first few posts for moderator review. This is a spam protection feature, not a punishment.

What this means for you:

• Your post won't appear immediately
• You'll see it on your profile, but others won't — yet
• A human moderator will review it (usually within a few hours)
• Once you've posted a few times and your account gets a little karma (Reddit’s scoring system), this stops happening

What you should do:

• Post once, then wait
• Don't repost the same thing multiple times — that actually slows things down
• Check back in a few hours

We read everything. We approve everything that follows the rules. Just give us a little time.

🏷️ Set your user flair (required)

Flair = the little tag next to your username that shows which cohort you're in or your role.

Why it matters:

• It's required to post or comment here
• It helps people know who they're talking to
• It builds trust and context in conversations

How to set it:

On desktop: Look for "User Flair Preview" in the right sidebar → hover and click the pencil icon

On mobile: Tap the three dots (⋮) on the top right corner in the subreddit homepage → "Change user flair"

🤝 What to expect from r/maestro

This isn't a help desk — it's a community of students, alumni, and staff building something together.

You'll find:

• Real talk about what it's like to study at Maestro
• Help with coursework, projects, and debugging
• Career advice and success stories
• Honest feedback and discussions about the platform
• Peers who get what you're going through

We don't sugarcoat things here. If something's broken or confusing, people say so. That honesty is what makes this space valuable.

💻 Laptop shipping questions

We get it — you're excited (or anxious) about when your laptop will arrive. But posts about laptop delivery or shipping timelines get removed to keep the subreddit focused and useful for everyone.

Why this rule exists:

• These posts tend to flood the feed quickly
• They don't help other students learn or connect
• The information isn't something the community can answer

What to do instead:

• Contact Student Services directly for shipping updates
• Reach out to your shipping provider with your tracking number

We want to keep the space valuable for everyone. Save the subreddit for discussions, questions, feedback, and content that help the whole community.

💬 A few Reddit culture tips

If you're brand new to Reddit, here are some unwritten norms that'll help you fit in:

• Upvote good content – It's how Reddit works. If someone helped you or posted something useful, upvote it.
• Don't delete your posts after getting an answer – Others might have the same question later.
• Use post flairs to help people find your content (like "Question," "Discussion," "Feedback," etc.) — If you're not sure which to pick, just do your best. Mods can adjust it if needed.
• Search before posting – Someone might've already asked your question.
• Be patient – Reddit isn't instant. Responses might take hours.
• Edit, don't double-post – If you need to add info, edit your original post instead of creating a new one. </aside>
